Alcohol Rehab Programs
Alcohol rehab centers offer various programs depending on the need and the condition of the patient. To determine the best treatment program for the patient, each facility does an assessment and then presents the options to the patient and his or her family.
The treatment programs in alcohol rehab centers may be generally classified as inpatient, outpatient, or residential. Inpatient rehab services are those that are usually offered by hospitals. Residential treatment is quite similar to the inpatient type except that the residential services are offered by a rehab center minus the strict standards of hospital care. The outpatient programs may also require the patient to stay in the facility for a short time. However, some stages of the treatment may be done in other locations.
During treatments, counseling is usually done in the rehab facility. Individual and group counseling sessions are done by licensed counselors to help the patients overcome their alcohol problems. For those under the outpatient program, they are required to come to the center on certain days to participate in the counseling.
Counseling is usually done during daytime while medication treatments are given depending on the dosage and frequency required. Those who are severely dependent on alcohol may need to take medications to help them overcome the craving for alcoholic drinks. Disulfiram, naltrexone, and acamprosate are just some of the generic drugs used in many rehab programs to reduce the patient's craving for alcohol and to manage the withdrawal symptoms as the patient stops drinking.
For those who would like to take the natural treatment approach, holistic programs are now being offered by some rehabilitation centers to address the need of those people who don't want to enroll in medication-based programs.
